Concurrency vs Parallelism in Multithreading

 

Every time we talk about asynchronous JavaScript programming, confusion sometimes arises when the programme is single-thread asynchronous. To correctly reply to this, I believe it is first of all a good thing to understand the difference between competitiveness and parallelism.


Concurrency:


Concurrency describes independent programme components which are executed in an arbitrary order without affecting the result. During one overlapping period, a concurrent application can run several tasks. This means we cannot perform work on each task simultaneously while we can begin new tasks before the previous one is complete.




Parallelism:


Parallelism describes the ability to simultaneously physically execute independent parts of a programme. A parallel application can distribute its tasks simultaneously to independent processors (such as various cores or threads of a CPU).
